NATO should consider joining the international coalition, which is fighting against the Islamic state organization, today its senior officials recommended after a week of allied talks in Brussels.
The US, which is leading this coalition that has been conducting air raids in Iraq and Syria in 2014 against IC, has long been pushing the Atlantic Alliance to join it as a whole. All 28 members already participate as states in the coalition.
After taking office, US President Donald Trub, who in his election campaign called NATO "obsolete," called on allies to do more in the fight against terrorism.
"The debate at the moment is:" will NATO become a member of this coalition? " This decision is expected to be taken at the next Summit of Heads of State and Government on Thursday 25 May in Brussels, said General Petr Pavel, who chairs the Atlantic Alliance Military Committee, during a press conference.
"We discussed it with the chiefs of staff and our recommendation is that NATO should consider joining this coalition," General Pagel added.
NATO, where decisions are taken unanimously, has so far refused to join the coalition against IK, as its member states are afraid that this will give a picture of how the Westerns are fighting against Arab countries and organizations.
