600,000 children among the civilians trapped in Mosul
At least 600,000 children are among the civilians trapped in Mosul, today made known the organization Save The Children, which is called to open humanitarian corridors to allow civilians to leave the stronghold of the Islamic State organization, which the Iraqi forces prepare to retake.
"This is a critical time when the need to protect children and to open safe escape routes allowing 1.5 million civilians, including 600,000 children, who remain trapped in the city, to leave safely," says the NGO.
"We can not wait for the moment the situation in Aleppo (Syria) repeated (Mosul), while we still have the ability to remove children from the fighting zone," said Maurizio Krivelaro, head of the NGO directorate Iraq.
According to estimates, more than a million people are under siege in Mosul.
