Turkey: The CHP supports the government to lift parliamentary immunity
The main opposition party in Turkey, the Republican People's Party (CHP), will support the ruling Bill Justice and Development (AKP) for the lifting of parliamentary immunity to allow prosecution against them, said yesterday evening the leader of that Kemal Kilicdaroglu party.
The Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has repeatedly called to allow the prosecution of deputies of the Party of the Republic of Peoples (HDP), which has Kurdish roots, which the Turkish president accuses an extension of the illegal Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK).
The Kilicdaroglu told CNN Turk network that his party will support the government's bill, although as noted this is contrary to the Constitution.
"Promoted a measure which is contrary to the Constitution. We know this, but we will say 'yes' to that," he said in an interview, adding that one should not enjoy immunity and can not be subject to prosecution, but not clarified further, according to the Athens Press Agency.
And the 316 AKP deputies have signed the government this draft law, officials said that party told Reuters.
To validate the government bill without having to undergo a referendum should be voted by 367 deputies in the Turkish parliament 550meli.
The HDP, the third largest party in parliament, is the subject of more than 550 applications pending in parliament for the lifting of parliamentary immunity.
