Seven Kurdish rebels killed in clashes in Diyarbakir
Seven Kurdish rebels organization Workers Kurdistan Party (PKK) were killed in firefights in Diyarbakir, the largest city in southeastern Turkey, according to sources in the security forces, a day after the announcement of the Turkish forces that completed the operations against the rebels in the city.
The conflict erupted in historic Sur district, which is included in the world heritage list drawn up by UNESCO and many of its monuments have been severely damaged in the clashes following the imposition of curfew in early December.
The sources said that special police forces clashed with rebels when the latter opened fire in a basement in Sur.
According to a statement issued Thursday, the army, enterprises in the region, which began on December 17, have killed 279 rebels of the PKK.
