Balkan Highway of Southeast Europe, the main road to get immigrants to arrive in most rich countries of the north, will be closed forever, said Austrian Interior Minister Johanna Miklos-Laitner German newspaper Die Welt today. Yesterday Macedonia closed its border with Greece to immigrants after Slovenia, Croatia and Serbia, the countries from which migrants go to reach Austria, announced stricter regulations for immigrants entering.
"My position is clear: the Balkan Route remains closed, and this forever," said Miklos-Laitner newspaper.
The Austrian minister said that only such a "consistent message" will deter immigrants, many of whom leave behind wars and crises in the Middle East and beyond, but to cross the Mediterranean from Turkey to reach European shores .
"This logic alliance has so far developed a decisive contribution to maintaining stability and order to the people in Europe," said Miklos-Laitner, referring to the Balkan countries on their way to Northern Europe.
