The opposition in Venezuela ensures enhanced majority in parliament


The opposition coalition in Venezuela, the Table of Democratic Unity (MUD), wins the basis of the results obtained enhanced three-fifths majority in the country's parliament after the parliamentary elections Sunday, announced yesterday the electoral commission of Venezuela. The MUD ensures 110 of the 167 seats in parliament, explained the National Electoral Council (CNE).

The United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) of President Nicolás Maduro, which had been founded by Hugo Chavez, taking 55 seats added by the CNE, while still remaining for distribution two seats. If the MUD ensure additional 110 seats already, the two remaining for distribution will then have the qualified majority of two thirds, which is defined in 112 seats. This majority gives important privileges such as the ability to convene a Constituent Assembly, or be removed from office judges of the Supreme Court.

The leadership of MUD states by Sunday evening that the opposition coalition has secured a majority of two thirds.
