Cavusoglu: Turkey does not develop soldiers in Iraq or withdraw
Turkey has stopped deploying soldiers in northern Iraq for now, but will not remove those already there, he said today the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, following the requirement of Baghdad to withdraw the troops sent near under control of the Islamic State Mosul.
In a telephone conversation he had with his Iraqi counterpart yesterday evening Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu reiterated that Turkey respects the territorial integrity of Iraq, told journalists the spokesman of the Turkish Foreign Ministry tanzanius Bilgkitz.
Turkey argues that the most recent development of Turkish troops in northern Iraq is part of a mission to train and equip Iraqi forces. The Iraqi government says never invited this power and would appeal to the UN, if not withdrawn.
Also, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said he wants to visit Baghdad as soon as possible to try to moderate the debate about the development of Turkish soldiers.
The Turkish troops in Iraq to protect against possible attack of the Islamic State and that those who interpret otherwise their presence "intentionally cause," Davutoglu said in a speech to his party in Parliament, according to the Athens agency.
He also said that Ankara has discussed possible measures against Russia in a session of the cabinet yesterday and impose sanctions if needed, although Ankara is open to talks with Moscow.
Russia imposed sanctions in Turkey after the shooting down of the Turkish Air Force of a Russian military plane near the Syrian-Turkish border last month.
Davutoglu also strongly criticized the recent "attacks and attacks" directed against Turkey from inside Iran, warning that Turkish-Iranian friendship will suffer greatly if this attitude continues. Not specified in which comments stated.
