Erdogan: We insist on safety belts in Syria
The Turkish government insists on the creation of "security zones" in northern Syria and the rapid implementation of the proposals for the training and equipping forces of insurgents belonging to the moderate opposition, said today the Turkish president Tayyip Erdogan.
Erdogan's comments were made during his speech in Ankara in a group of local and regional officials and broadcast live on television.
Ankara halted the deployment of troops in Iraq two days ago
Turkey stopped the deployment of troops in northern Iraq bass, two days ago, following protests from Baghdad and Ankara will do nothing to reduce territorial sovereignty of Iraq, announced today the Turkish Foreign Ministry.
"It is unacceptable to believe that Turkey would proceed in a move that would weaken the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iraq, something that Turkey has great sensitivity," the statement emphasized.
"Because of the sensitivity expressed by the Iraqi authorities, friends and our brothers, we interrupted the development of power in the bass two days ago," he noted.
Earlier today, the Turkish Foreign Minister said that Ankara would not withdraw the troops already there, following the requirement of Baghdad to withdraw the soldiers who were sent to an area near Mosul, which owns the Islamic State.
Turkey argues that the most recent development of Turkish troops in northern Iraq is part of a mission to train and equip Iraqi forces. The Iraqi government says never invited this power and would appeal to the UN, if not withdrawn.
