Rajoy-Sanchez noon Meeting

Rajoy-Sanchez noon Meeting

The head of the outgoing Spanish government, the conservative Mariano Rajoy will meet this afternoon with the leader of the Socialists Pedro Sanchez, to start negotiations on forming a new government, according to an announcement of Rajoy services.

"Mariano Rajoy and Pedro Sanchez will meet at 12:00 (13:00 GMT) in Monkloa (the seat of government), for the first time since the general election" Sunday the statement said.

In the parliamentary elections the Popular Party Mariano Rajoy remained the largest party in the country (28.7% of the vote, 123 seats), but lost the absolute majority (176 deputies out of a total 350) which had the lower house.

The proposed Rajoy then "a dialogue" other parties "to try to form the government."

The dynamic entry in parliament of two new parties, Podemos (radical left) and Ciudadanos (liberals) requires at least tacit alliances to ensure the support of parliamentarians.

To form a government by Mariano Rajoy must ensure a minimum of abstinence from the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) led by Pedro Sanchez, who can block the way of voting against him.
