Slovenia erect "barriers" at the border to manage refugee flows

In the coming days we will begin to place temporary technical barriers at borders to redirect the flow of migrants, said Tserar, assuring that they close the border, but we want to have a controlled and safe flow of migrants and prevent a humanitarian disaster.
Based on the most recent data available, the Austrian government plans to accommodate only 6,000 immigrants a day in the near future, he pointed Tserar, adding that Slovenia does not have the capabilities to handle an excessive number of immigrants.

For him, however, the borders of the EU member countries must remain open: We must not allow Europe to regain the borders of its kind in the past.

The Tserar stated that it had already informed the Chancellor of Austria and Prime Minister of Croatia on the measures taken by the Ljubljana and denounced the lack of effectiveness of the EU and its partners in terms of tackling the crisis. An extraordinary EU Summit will take place Wednesday and Thursday in Valetta the day after the crisis of refugees and immigrants.

To date, the European Commission has approved additional funding of EUR 10 mil. In order to assist Ljubljana to face the crisis.

In Slovenia, the centrist prime minister Miro Cerar said Tuesday that the authorities of "decided in the next few days" to begin to erect a "temporary barriers" along the borders with Croatia to control the flow of migrants and refugees but will keep running border crossings.

More than 171,000 immigrants and refugees from the Middle East, Asia and Africa have entered Slovenia since mid-October, when the Hungarian government decided - on the night of 16th to the 17th of last month - to close the southern border with Croatia and essentially forced these people to pass through the territory of Slovenia to reach Austria.

About 30,000 people are still expected to come in Slovenia within next few days in an attempt to reach the Austrian territory.
