The Syrian Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG), armed Syrian Arab organizations and an Assyrian Christian organization, according to a statement issued overnight.
"The difficult phase passing our country, Syria, and rapid changes in political and military terms ... require the establishment of a unified national military force for all Syrians, union Kurds, Arabs and Assyrians and other organizations," stated in the statement sent to Reuters by a representative of YPG.
Apart from the YPG, the Democratic Forces in Syria include Arab organizations such as the Guerrilla Army (Jaysh al-Thuwwar) and an Assyrian Christian organization.
The move to set up a common front against the Islamic State follows the US decision to end the training program puller rebels and to focus on the supply of arms to armed groups of the Syrian opposition.
