Two killed in knife attack on the Shock IKEA store in Sweden
Two people were killed and another was seriously injured today in a chain IKEA store in town Wester Sweden, when a man attacked them with a knife, as it became known by the local police.
The reasons for the attack remain unclear.
"Around 13.00 we received a call informing us about injuries IKEA (...) In the shop we found a man and a woman who had received stab wounds and then succumbed to their injuries. Another man has been seriously injured," said the police Vastmanlant province in a statement.
The police have arrested a suspect for the attack. The injured person is a man about 35 years old who was taken to hospital and went immediately to the operating room, said the representative of local health authorities Eva Lintal. So far the police have not given any other details about the identity of the victims and the suspect.
The city Wester, one of the largest in Sweden, located about an hour west of the capital Stockholm.
The Swedish TV channels broadcast the afternoon images from the outside of the store, which was evacuated and surrounded by police officers. The local newspaper VLT, citing the director of the store said that the victims were "regulars" and the double homicide was in part cookware.
