Labor seeks UK government to explain cyber-attack against national health system

The British Labor Party today called on the government of Teresa May to explain how hackers managed to launch a cyber-attack with a "ransomware" virus against the National Health System today (NHS).

"The incident highlights the risk to data security within the modern health care system and points out that the need for cyber-security measures must be at the heart of government planning," Labor Shadow Labor Health Minister Jonathan Asworth said.

"The government must be clear about what happened and about the measures it takes to reduce the threat to the patients," he added.

Further funding for the NHS is an important part of the Labor Campaign in view of the next month's parliamentary elections.

Earlier, hospital workers were warned to be threatened by 'ransomware' malicious software that locks computers and asks ransom to allow re-access to the user, according to an e-mail message received by Reuters news agency.
