II. Putin: To restore a dialogue with Turkey

Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized the common desire of his country and Turkey to "re-establish dialogue and relations" between their welcoming today in St. Petersburg, after nine months of diplomatic crisis, the Turkish counterpart Tayyip Erdogan, who emphasized by the side that the Turkish-Russian relations have entered a "very different period" and that the solidarity between the two countries will help solve regional problems.

"Your visit, which takes place in spite of the very complicated internal political situation in Turkey, shows that we all want to restore the dialogue and relations in the interests of the Russian people and the Turkish people," Putin said after a handshake between the two leaders.

Putin, who was one of the first foreign leaders who telephoned Erdogan after the failed coup attempt of July 15, today reiterated that Russia is "categorically opposed action against any attempt by non-constitutional means."

He added that he hoped that Turkey "will overcome this problem and how the class and the constitutional law will be restored" in that country.

For his part, Erdogan thanked the Russian counterpart for the phone call he made on July 15, saying that "gave us great joy to the people."
Turkish President said the relations between the two countries are now entering a "positive" phase and added that "solidarity" between Moscow and Ankara would help resolve the problems in the region.
