Russian planes carried "passengers" flights on American destroyer
Russian military aircraft carried out a series of "aggressive" overflight of a ship of the US Navy in international waters of the Baltic, said official Pentagon.
Speaking for multiple events, an officer specifically denounced the overflight of a Sukhoi Su-24, at a height of less than nine meters above the USS Donald Cook boat, which he called "a simulated attack".
It was an action "more aggressive than we have seen for some time," noted the official.
The maneuvers began Monday, while the American destroyer sailed approximately 70 nautical miles (130 km.) From the enclave of Kaliningrad, the westernmost part of Russian territory between the Baltic Sea, Poland and Lithuania.
Two Russian Su-24 made 20 passes near the USS Donald Cook, less than 900 meters and a height of less than 30 meters, according to the official.
Then Tuesday, a Russian helicopter Ka-27 anti-submarine warfare made seven passes near the same US ship taking pictures.
Shortly afterwards a Su-24 arrived in the area and flew over the American destroyer, in such a short height 'vortexes caused in sea level, "said the US official. The Russian aircraft did not bear visible weapons.
The US crew repeatedly tried to contact the Russian pilot using international frequencies but did not get an answer.
"According to the master," the destroyer, the overflight that was "dangerous and unprofessional," the US official said.
The US military released today photos and videos of the "offensive" passages of Sukhoi.
"We are deeply concerned about these unsafe, non-business maneuvers," said European Pentagon Administration, speaking on risk "further escalation unnecessarily" in bilateral relations, but also on the risk of producing "an accident that could cause serious injury or death. "
But House spokesman Josh Earnest White during the regular update of journalists expressed the US concern about the incident.
