Germany: Agreement on new anti-terrorism measures and refugee integration plan
The party leaders of the ruling German coalition agreed, at a meeting that ended at dawn today (Thursday), a counter-terrorism package, sources said the coalition. The parties - the conservative Chancellor Angela Merkel, their Bavarian allies and the Social Democrats - also agreed the details of a new law which determines the integration of refugees, the sources said, without giving details.
Approximately 1 million immigrants arrived in Germany last year, leaving many conflicts in the Middle East. Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere plans a new law which would oblige refugees to learn German and integrate into society. Last month, the German authorities have increased security measures at airports, the train stations and the country's borders with Belgium, France, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, after the terrorist attacks in Brussels.
