N. Korea: Detected new outbreak of avian influenza in ducks


South Korea has detected outbreak of avian influenza in ducks in poultry farm near Seoul, according to official statements by the Ministry of Agriculture.

This is the first case within four months, identified one month after the proclamation of the country into "free of avian influenza."

The new incident refers to the H5N8 strain, which had been detected in the country last November. According to authorities, the farm bred 11.604 ducks are slaughtered.

South Korea had begun poultry exports to Hong Kong for the first time in two years, as announced by the Ministry of Agriculture of the country on March 13.

The new outbreak of bird flu intensified concerns about food safety in the country, and flare was observed from January, in diseases associated with foot and mouth fever.
