About 30 militants and soldiers were killed in clashes in southeast Turkey
Local elected official was killed today in southeastern Turkey, after a weekend of violence in which also killed nearly 30 militants and soldiers, according to sources in the security forces.
Ibrahim inches, the community of the village Sarioren Sanilourfa province, was shot when gunmen allegedly were fighters of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) attacked in his car, the sources said.
The gunmen escaped after they had set off an explosive device to target military vehicle. Three soldiers were wounded in the explosion, the sources said.
The army said that 25 militants of the PKK were killed in cities Nousaimpin, Sirnak and Yuksekova in clashes over the weekend.
On Sunday, two soldiers were killed and seven injured in Nousaimpin, a town on the Syrian border, where militants detonated explosives on a building which is investigating security forces, said sources in the security forces.
In a separate incident in Nousaimpin in which 24 curfew in force since March 14, a soldier was killed by sniper fire and a policeman was killed in a bomb attack.
