Turkey: Police raid office of the pro-Kurdish HDP
The Turkish police has today detained local leaders of the pro-Kurdish Party of the Republic of Peoples (HDP) during a raid carried out in one of the party headquarters in Istanbul, officials said the HDP, just two days after the president Recep Tayyip Erdogan said supports legal action against its members.
The anti-terrorist police and special forces participated in the operation, according to state news agency East, which reported that the company is part of the suppression network of youth of Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK). The operation took place at dawn and also many documents confiscated.
Erdogan and the government accuse the HDP, which is the third biggest party in the Turkish parliament, it is an extension of the PKK, which is fighting for three decades for greater autonomy for the Kurds in the Southeast of the country and is considered a terrorist organization by Turkey , the US and the European Union.
The HDP is opposed to violence and wants a peaceful solution to Turkey's Kurds.
