UN: Agreement on the formation of a government in Libya
The UN Security Council Wednesday unanimously ratified the agreement signed under UN auspices between the two warring sides in Libya to form a national unity government.
An agreement that the Western powers hope will bring stability and contribute to the fight against organized Islamic State, which stepped up its activities in the country of North Africa.
The Security Council resolution, the text of which was drafted by Britain, makes clear that the future government of national unity in Libya, based in Tripoli, will be the only one that will represent the country at international level.
Earlier, the ambassador of Libya to the UN Ibrahim Dabasi said that his country has no intention to request soon by western forces to conduct air strikes against Islamic State, but would like the UN to lift the arms embargo imposed on the country .
"We aim to fight our own IK" he told Reuters.
He added that Libya may eventually need air support from Western countries in the fight against IK, but stressed that such a request if made, will not be submitted immediately.
