Greenpeace activists were arrested during an operation of the Arc de Triomphe in Paris
Activists of the organization were arrested today after Greenpeace hung a banner at the Arc de Triomphe in central Paris, and painted with yellow paint on the pavement of the square around the monument, AFP reported, citing a police source.
In this mobilization, held on the occasion of the UN International Conference on climate change, attended by around 80 people, 50 on the ground and 30 at the Arc de Triomphe, according to Greenpeace.
The police announced that it proceeded with "many arrests" in the area of the monument and around this, but to clarify the exact number.
During this operation, two activists hung by ropes from the monument unraveled a little yellow banner which appeared the slogan: "Mr. Hollande, increase renewable energy sources."
Then another group painted with yellow paint on the pavement of the circular square Charles de Gaulle, the center of which the Arc de Triomphe rises, and as Greenpeace points out that its members used a "suitable" for the paint environment "cleared" easily.
"France supports that exhibit exemplary behavior in terms of renewable energy sources but today develops three times less compared with their European neighbors. What we have to tell Francois Hollande: increase renewables, we must promote the development of renewable energy sources. This is the only way to fight climate change, "explained Frederic Amiel, head of Greenpeace's campaign in France.
