USA: Detected wreck deep
A shipwreck believed to be the container ship El Faro, which was lost while sailing in an area hit by Hurricane Joaquin believed that sank with 33 crew members, was discovered Saturday at a depth of 15,000 feet (4.572 meters).
A research group on board the USS Apache spotted the wreckage using sonar, said the National Transportation Safety Board (National Transportation Safety Board, NTSB) in a statement.
According to the announcement it is planned to use an unmanned submersible to verify if indeed the wreck is El Faro later today.
The wreck seems to be intact and lying upright on the seabed.
The ship, 224 meters long, in which 28 Americans aboard and 5 Polish sailors, disappeared on October 1, after he had sailed from Jacksonville, Florida to Puerto Rico.
