Palestinian attempted to kill Israeli guard with knife

Israeli guards at the border crossing "overpowered" today a Palestinian who was attacked with a knife in occupied Israel West Bank, opening fire towards her, in a new episode of violence occurring in this area, said the Israeli defense ministry.

The guards located at a border crossing in the northern part of the West Bank first dropped warning fire when they saw a Palestinian approaching the knife.

Then shot in its direction when it refused to stop, adds the ministry in a statement, which does not specify whether the Palestinian was injured or killed.

At the same time, the Israeli air force carried out during the last night airstrike against a post of the Palestinian Hamas in the Gaza Strip after a rocket that was cast into southern Israel from the Palestinian area, while the Israeli army announced.

"A rocket cast Sunday night from the Gaza Strip to the regional council of Saar Chanegkev without causing injuries. In response, the Israeli Air Force put targeted a position of Hamas in the southern Gaza Strip," added a statement the army.

Yesterday also six Israelis were wounded in three attacks carried out against the Palestinians, one of whom was killed in the West Bank.

These attacks marked the time when the Israeli prime minister is expected to meet today US President Barack Obama and talk mainly about the Israeli-Palestinian tensions.

From October 1, a total of 74 people have been killed on the Palestinian side --metaxy which an Israeli Arab katagogis-- and 10 from the Israeli side to the Palestinian Territories and Israel. A vast majority of them Palestinians killed during the attempt or carry out an attack, according to Israel.

The present cycle of violence between Israelis and Palestinians is causing the fear of a new Palestinian uprising (Intifada).
