Netherlands: Fire and black smoke 'paralyzed' traffic
"The fire in Chemelot (the name of the industrial area) had resulted in a thick smoke layer" pointed firefighters in southern Limburg, in the southeastern part of the Netherlands, in their account on the website social networking Twitter. In the photos provided published Dutch media depicted an impressive and dense black cloud is visible from a distance of several kilometers. The industrial plant located near the town Cheleen manufactures chemicals.
Local authorities reported on Twitter that no man has been injured and no chemical material does not burn.
The aim of the firefighting units, who assured me that shortly before 17.00 local time the fire was 'in control' was to avoid the possibility that the flames extend to other buildings.
As Dutch media reported, the fire broke out during work on the roof of a warehouse. Three railway stations, two at Helena and one in Sittard, a city south of Cheleen were closed as authorities advised citizens to close the doors and windows as well as disable the ventilation systems.
According to the Dutch news agency ANP, the smoke caused problems for flights to Maastricht Airport, located 10 km south of Cheleen. Students remained in their classrooms in schools and banned traffic on many roads for a short time.
