Obama: There eliminated the ISIS if the Syrian crisis is not resolved
US President Barack Obama said today that the fighters of the Islamic state can not be eliminated until there is a political solution in Syria, which may take some time.
Such a solution is not possible if the Syrian president Bashar al-Assad remain in power, added Obama, who participates in the annual summit of the organization's Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in Manila.
"I can not imagine a situation in which we can put an end to the civil war in Syria with Assad to remain in power," said Obama, rejecting leaders' proposals in the Middle East, according to which Assad could participate in future elections in Syria, as the Athens Press Agency reported.
Addressing also the issue of Guantánamo, President Obama noted that could close this American prison in Cuba while guaranteeing the safety of Americans, but as recognized will probably face tough resistance from Congress.
The prison has been turned into a recruitment tool for organizations like the Islamic State, which claimed responsibility for the attacks last week in Paris, stressed also supporting its position.
