Kremlin: Only Assad can fight against the Islamic State
The Kremlin has estimated Saturday that only the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad can fight against the Islamic State, rejecting criticism of US President Barack Obama for the Russian strategy in Syria.
Obama had said Friday that Russia's strategy in Syria, which is to support President Assad is "doomed to failure".
The US criticism "is not new," replied the Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, adding that Russia has the "already heard".
"Unfortunately, so far no one has managed to explain in understandable terms what would be the alternative to the legitimate Syrian government to ensure security in the country, to fight against the advance of IK and to ensure the unity of the country," he said The Peskov.
"We think it is unacceptable and dangerous to impose any decision on the Syrian people," he added.
