European assistance of 16.3 mil. Euro to Greece and Bulgaria for flood damage
The European Parliament's Budgets Committee approved assistance of EUR 16.3 mil. Euros to Greece and Bulgaria to repair damage caused to public and private infrastructure from extreme weather conditions in early 2015.
This financial assistance from the European Solidarity Fund now remains to be approved by the plenary of the European Parliament in October.
In Greece, the floods destroyed public buildings, private homes, businesses, agricultural land and cultural heritage sites in central Greece and in the Evros region, while in southeastern Bulgaria, heavy rains and subsequent floods and landslides destroyed embankments, communications networks and roads as well as public and private buildings.
