Belgian MEP proposed by the European Parliament building to house refugees
The huge futuristic building of the European Parliament in Strasbourg could be used to house refugees, proposed a Belgian Green MEP, according to the BBC. As said Philippe Lambert, MEPs could be moved to another building in Brussels.
His proposal yesterday delivered on time the European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker called on EU member states to accommodate additional 120,000 refugees under the quota system.
"This parliament, where we gathered today, just 50 days using the year," said Lambert while MEPs debated on the proposal Juncker.
The Strasbourg building was inaugurated in 1999 by then French President Jacques Chirac.
