"Do not Take My Dress": Women's Movement in Istanbul

Hundreds of women have made a march in Istanbul today to protest the violence against them and the hostility they face with some men who demand to dress more conservatively.

The course, with the basic slogan "Do Not Work With My Outfit", started from the Kantian district on the Asian side of the city. The women who participated held hangers where they put jeans shorts, an example of the type of garment that some men find unacceptable.

"We will not obey, we will not be silent, we will not be afraid. We will win through resistance, "the crowd shouted.

The protesters have complained that more and more cases of verbal and physical violence against women are being recorded for the choices they make in their outfits.
In June, a young Turkish woman, Asena Melisa Saglam, was assaulted by a bus driver in Istanbul because she was wearing a short suit during the Muslim month of Ramadan. In the video that was released, the man is beating her while the bus driver is just watching.
