Makron asks for euro co-operation. Countries to counter terrorism

French President Emmanuel Macron today expressed his intention to "enhance European co-operation" in the fight against terrorism at the Paris embassy in Paris after a long-standing assault on Manchester and announced that the Defense Council will meet again tomorrow.

"In addition to condolences, this afternoon we express our sense of solidarity and our full support, and we also express our determination to strengthen European cooperation on the fight against terrorism," he said after signing the condolence book.

Makron announced that tomorrow the Defense Council will meet again. It was called for the first time last week, just after the first cabinet meeting. The goal is to set up a "task force" to deal with the Islamic State, the organization that has taken responsibility and the attack on Manchester. Also, as Mr Makron said, he will deal with the coordination of intelligence services and the strengthening of instruments already in use to combat terrorism.

"We will stand decisively on behalf of all our European partners to fight terrorism everywhere on our continent," he added, noting that "many things have already been done" and welcoming "exemplary co-operation". However, he stressed that he wanted to continue "strengthening this cooperation in practice".
