The UN urges the US to continue their tradition of receiving refugees

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) today called on the government of Donald Trump to continue the US tradition of receiving refugees and offering asylum to people who are forced to leave their countries fleeing war and persecution, stressing that the US resettlement program is vital.

The US president signed a decree yesterday which is prohibited for three months in the US refugee entry and the entry of travelers from Syria and six other Muslim countries, saying that such measures help protect Americans from terrorist attacks.

"The needs of refugees and migrants worldwide has never been so great and the US resettlement program is one of the most important in the world", highlighting both international services in a joint statement from their headquarters in Geneva.
