French President Francois Hollande said today in Berlin, where he met with Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel, the government of the new American President Donald Trump is a "problem" for the European Union, particularly in the commercial sector.
As regards Europe, "let's talk very frankly, there are problems posed by the US government in relation to the rules of trade, also in relation to what should be our position on the settlement of conflicts in the world" said the president of France.
"Therefore, you should certainly talk with Donald Trump, as chosen by the Americans to be their chairman, but we also do a European position and to promote our interests and values," he added Francois Hollande.
"To be honest, what threatens Europe comes not only from outside. also comes from inside. I mean the rise of extremists using external factors to cause inner turmoil, "he added.
The German chancellor also indirectly expressed its concern about recent developments in the United States.
"We note that the global context in which we place in the world is changing radically and rapidly and we have to deal with these new problems," said Angela Merkel.
