Commercial and military cooperation at the heart of Mei-Trump talks


The British prime minister, the first foreign leader who met today with the new US president Donald Trump said that the two countries want to build military and commercial relations.

At the press conference together with the Trump after talks that were in the Oval Office, Teresa Mei said that London is considering how to achieve a trade agreement with the US and that practical steps were discussed that can be done to easier make the trade.

Referring to NATO, the prime minister said that both countries recognize the value of and maintain their commitment to the Atlantic Alliance. The President Trump, he said, promised that "will support 100%" NATO, although it has been criticized many times and recently described as "outdated". But he added that NATO should be equipped to be able to face the cyber and that she would try to persuade European leaders to honor their commitments regarding the financing of the Alliance.

In contacts with the Trump Mei said he also discussed the fight against the Islamic State and said that efforts are intensified to tackle cyber jihadists.

For the sanctions imposed on Russia, the prime minister said that he believes should be pursued by Moscow to implement the Minsk conditions.

Commenting on the relations between itself and the President Trump, Mei said that "there will be times when you disagree" with him, but the special relationship between the two countries means that the debate is open and honest. He added that there are many issues on which the two countries agree that "listens to the president and the president listens to me."

Teresa Mei also revealed that Queen Elizabeth Trump invited to visit Britain later this year and Obama accepted the invitation.

Donald Trump wants to have good relations with Russia, it is "too early" to talk about lifting sanctions against Moscow

O US president Donald Trump said today that it wants to have good relations with Russia, while avoiding to confirm whether it is ready to proceed with the lifting of sanctions imposed against Moscow.

In a joint press conference with British Teresa Prime Mei in the White House, after the first meeting with the leader of a foreign country after his inauguration, Obama said he hopes to have a "wonderful relationship" with President Vladimir Putin , while stressing that it is unlikely to achieve this.

Furthermore he stressed that it is "too early" to talk about lifting sanctions against Russia, a day before the scheduled telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart.
