The mayors of several major cities of the US, who participated in a conference in Mexico this week, today called to "build bridges" with Mexico instead of "walls", responding in this manner to the threats unleashed by the elected president USA Donald Trump.
"Others believe that they can build walls, but we, we believe that we can build bridges to pass over these walls," said the mayor of Seattle, Ed Murray, having alongside their counterparts in Washington, New York, Austin, Phoenix and Portland.
"We are not naive towards political framework which will face in the future, but we believe that we can have some influence," he added during a press conference.
The mayor of Seattle made the above statement in the context of the Summit of Mayors of C40 (Urban Network) in Mexico.
The C40, which involved 90 cities, including Rio, Caracas, New York, Paris, Dakar, Johannesburg, Addis Ababa, the Seoul, Beijing, Shanghai, London and Athens, totaling 650 million people and 25% of global GDP.
"We all, we recognize that an election will not transform the people of the cities in the US, the values will not change because of an election process," stated the Muriel Baouzer, Mayor of Washington DC, reported in place of Donald Trump on the issue of climate change.
Donald Trump will officially take office on January 20. During his campaign, the tycoon called them Mexican immigrants rapists and drug traffickers and promised to build a wall on the border with Mexico.
Moreover, the billionaire called climate change a "farce" invented by the Chinese.
