FV Steinmeier: incomprehensible that Erdogan's statements that Germany has become a "haven for terrorists"
Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan has accused Germany today that "hosts terrorists", saying that Berlin refused to issue persons associated with the attempted coup of July.
From Berlin, the Foreign Affairs Frank-Walter Steinmeier Minister replied that "can not at all understand these Erdogan" statements, reported the German Press Agency.
"At the moment, Germany has become one of the leading countries in terms of hosting terrorists. It will go down in history as a country that welcomes terrorists" the Turkish president said in a speech in Ankara.
Erdogan said that the Turkish authorities have sent to Berlin more than 4,000 folders with extradition requests related to the failed coup, without receiving a positive response.
The assured Steinmeier that Germany wishes to have "close and constructive relations" with Ankara but "will not chew the words" in matters relating to violations of freedom of expression and of the press.
