UN: The number of displaced persons from the area of Mosul was 10,000
More than 10,000 Iraqis have already fled their homes since the beginning on October 17th, the land business for the recapture of the jihadists of the Islamic State of their bulwark of Mosul, made by the United Nations known today.
Second largest city in Iraq where the Islamic State declared 2014 the "caliphate" of the region of Mosul has a population of about 1.5 million residents, according to the UN.
"About 10,500 people are currently displaced and in need of humanitarian assistance," emphasizes the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Operations (Ocha) in a press release.
"The movement of populations fluctuate depending on the displacement of the front lines, including residents returning to their homes after the improvement of security conditions in their immediate residence area," added the statement.
More than 3.3 million Iraqis forced to flee their homes because of conflict since early 2014.
