Turkish police arrested the mayors of Diyarbakir

Turkish police have arrested the mayor of Diyarbakir, in southeastern Turkey, according to sources in the security forces. The Kisanak Gould, a former member of parliament before the election as mayor of the city and Firat Anli were detained as part of the prosecution investigation for links to terrorism, said the sources.

The authorities carry out an investigation at the office of mayors, added the sources.

A partner Kisanak said that the police carry out an investigation in the house of the mayor, without being able to give further details, without knowing the categories with which the arrests were made.

In September Turkey appointed new administrations in dozens of cities, whose inhabitants which are mostly Kurds, taking a dismissal of elected mayors for alleged links to terrorism.

The 55chroni Kisanak known Kurdish politician was elected in 2014 as the first woman mayor of the city. Earlier Tuesday, testified before a parliamentary committee in Ankara investigating the failed military coup of July 15.

It was not immediately clear if the filing of the Committee related to the detention, that happened to her return to the Diyarbakir airport.

The Anli arrested in the house, the sources stressed.
