The general staff of the army presses Putin to allow raids against the Islamists in Aleppo
The Russian Defense Ministry announced today that the General Staff has asked President Vladimir Putin for permission to resume air strikes against Islamist rebels in Aleppo city in eastern Syria, after their 10-day interruption, transmits Interfax agency.
The ministry cites recent resurgence of activity of the Islamists and the unremitting loss of civilian lives to justify their request. For time it is not known whether Putin has shown willingness to accept the request.
However, pro-government publications now report that Russia is sending the cruiser Smietlivi to join the operational fleet off the coast to Syria in the Mediterranean.
