Charles Michel: Belgium has not be able to give today the green light for the signing of CETA

Belgium is not able to give today the green light for the signing of the Free Trade Agreement between the EU and Canada (Ceta), after blocking the agreement of three federal entities of the country, including Wallonia, announced the Belgian prime minister.

"We are not able to sign the CETA", she admitted Charles Michel after a meeting of the dialogue committee, which includes all federal entities of Belgium and the Federal Government.

"We were asked to give a clear answer today. The clear answer to this step is not," he said.

A few minutes earlier, the head of the Walloon Government Maniet Paul, who became opposition leader in CETA, stated that the region can not "under current circumstances" to give its consent.

After convening the dialogue committee demonstrated to Wallonia, as the government of Brussels and the French linguistic community, have not given their consent, unlike the federal government, Flanders and the small German-speaking community.
