A strong earthquake of 6.9 degrees in Papua New Guinea
Earthquake magnitude 6.9 degrees recorded today stanoikta of New Britain Island in Papua New Guinea, announced the American Institute of Geophysics (USGS). No tsunami warning was issued for the Tsunami Warning Center Pacific.
The epicenter of the earthquake had a depth of 35 km. In the sea area between the island of New Britain and the north coast of Papua New Guinea.
In July 1998 two undersea 7 magnitude earthquake triggered three tsunami resulting in at least 2,100 people lose their lives near the town of Aitape on the north coast of Papua New Guinea.
Papua New Guinea is located in the area called "Ring of Fire", where often there are earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
