At the mercy of fires in Portugal and Spain. Thousands of firefighters are battling the flames
Thousands of firefighters are still battling with the flames today in Portugal and Spain as the fires raging, threatening residents and tourists.
In Portugal, more than 2,000 dasopyrosvestes trying to bring under control about 50 homes that turned to ashes thousands of hectares of forest and scrub, and while the country is facing an unprecedented for September heatwave.

"Our flames have surrounded, the gendarmerie asked my husband and me to leave our home, but we refused," described in the Eva Portuguese television, 71, a resident of Parantela, he tried to extinguish the fire using a hose irrigation.
"The burned pastures, animals have nothing to eat. It is a calamity for this natural park; the only one in Portugal; tourism, "said Helder Bar, Mayor of Arcos de Valdevez community, which has suffered greatly.
At least 300 firefighters were mobilized in Botikas, northern Portugal, where today there was another fire. Children and elderly were removed from a settlement last night.
"Two more villages threatened by the flames, the resources mobilized are inadequate," complained the mayor Fernando Gkoueirogka, under which 20,000 hectares of forest land of his community turned into ashes.

The tourist island of Madeira, where three people died in fires in August, 54,000 acres have been destroyed.

In neighboring Spain, about 390,000 acres of forest burned between January and August 28 and, as in Portugal, the authorities have launched a manhunt to arrest the arsonists.
