India: Police will paint the horns of cows with fluorescent paint to reduce road accidents

With fluorescent strips that stick to the horns of stray cows trying Indian police to reduce the number of accidents occurring at night on the streets of central India.

After repeated accidents involving animals, male traffic police a region of Madhya Pradesh state placed fluorescent orange bands on the horns 300 cows and bulls to be distinguished from the drivers when it gets dark.

Hundreds of cattle roam the roads of India axes and constitute a great danger for drivers of cars and motorcycles.

"Many drivers injured or killed animals which collided at night," explained Kyle Sochan, inspector of traffic police of the region Balagkat. "We had to urgently intervene to prevent these accidents," he said.

The first encouraging results convinced the police that his method gives them. So they bought indelible phosphorescent paint to paint the horns of cows as adhesive tapes unfortunately tear away after a few weeks.

Last year 550 people died in India in road accidents which involved stray animals, according to official figures.
