European Commission: Turkey does not meet the criteria to abolish visas for citizens
Turkey has made "progress" in recent weeks, but there does not meet even all the criteria required in order to exempt Turkish citizens from the obligation to issue a visa to travel to the Schengen Area, according to a European Commission report released today published.
"Progress continued" after the previous Commission report, released in early May, appreciate Brussels. But "Turkey must apply the criteria laid down in the roadmap," stated the Commissioner for Migration and Home Affairs Dimitris Avramopoulos.
In the new report, the Commission refers again to the same list of criteria remains to be implemented (seven in total 72). These include the modification of the anti-terrorism law that is considered by Europeans too broad and threatening the freedom of expression.
