At least 93 killed by lightning in India
At least 93 people have died from lightning in the last 48 hours in India, where they started the rains accompanying the monsoons, today announced the local authorities.
During the monsoon season (June to October) storms often affect India. Since the beginning of the month have launched the rains in southern parts of the country, but this year the toll is very heavy.
In the state of Bihar reported 56 dead during a storm which occurred at night. Most of the victims lived in rural areas.
"The toll is 56 dead and 28 wounded. Most are women and children," noted the official Anirount Kumar, a spokesman for disaster relief service.
Other 37 people died in the states Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh.
Lightning kills thousands of Indians every year, mainly peasants who work outdoors.
