The missile launches from Iran is against the UN resolution
By firing missiles able to carry nuclear weapons, Iran has defied resolution of the UN Security Council, which approved the historic nuclear deal made last year, said the United States and its European allies in a joint letter seen by Reuters agency yesterday.
Recent ballistic Iran tests involving missiles capable of containing nuclear weapons and was "inconsistent" to and "adverse" in Resolution 2231 of the Council which was adopted in July 2015, they said in a joint letter to the ambassador of Spain to the UN Roman Ogiarzoun Markesi and Secretary general Ban Ki-moon, the US, Britain, France and Germany.
The letter states that the missiles used in recent launches have been "inherently capable of carrying nuclear weapons."
The signatories also asked the Security Council to discuss the "appropriate response" to the failure of Tehran to comply with its obligations and by Ban to give information on missile Iranian actions do not comply with Resolution 2231.
(The responsibility for coordination of Council deliberations on the resolution 2231 has been assigned to Spain).
According to Western officials, although the jets did not comply with the resolution, not a violation of the terms of the basic nuclear agreement between Iran, Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United States.
Diplomats also say that the great powers agree that the claim is not legally binding and can not be imposed under Chapter 7 of the UN Charter concerning sanctions and license to use military force.
But Western countries claim that Iran is politically obliged to comply.
The letter also states that the four forces that the sign "note with concern (that) the military leaders of Iran is reported to have stated that the missiles are designed to be a direct threat to Israel."
Several diplomats said that the worst that can wait Iran is a public rebuke by the Security Council.
Under the terms of the nuclear agreement, epanepivoli sanctions by the UN can only be activated by violation of the agreed restrictions on Iran's nuclear work.
