Ireland: Thousands of protesters in the streets against austerity measures
Thousands of people marched today in Dublin against austerity policies a few days before the parliamentary elections on February 26.
In demonstration participated several organizing protesting against austerity measures, whose members held a banner saying the slogan "Right2Change" and managed by the new tax imposed on the consumption of water and came into force in early 2015, an issue that continues causing the wrath of the people.
Even though this country of 4.6 million inhabitants is now the champion of growth in the European Union (7% in the first nine months of 2015), years of such great sacrifices had to be made after the 2008 financial crisis have left a bitter taste on the lips of the citizens of this country.
The protesters were holding banners on which one could read the slogans:
"Water is a human right" and many chanted "sold us."
The organizers argue that a protest Ireland "based on equality, democracy and social justice and not on patronage, corruption and greed."
"We fight to put an end to austerity, which has paralyzed the young in this country. The charges in the water was the straw that broke the camel 'explained to AFP Jun Markham, a pensioner from Dublin.
According to the latest polls, the outgoing coalition, under Enda Kenny (Fine Gael) by Labour (center left) will be difficult to obtain the 80 seats needed to form a government.
