France-COP21: Obama-Putin Meeting on the sidelines of the Conference




US President Barack Obama and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin met today on the margins of the Conference on Climate Change in Paris and discussed the issue of the Syrian crisis as well as the situation in Ukraine, informed an official of the White House.

The American president said the head of the Russian state that he believes the president of Syria Bashar al-Assad should be withdrawn from power in the process of political transition, added the official.

He advocated a diplomatic solution to the Ukrainian crisis and pointed out that sanctions against Russia could be lifted if Moscow fulfilled the terms of the agreements Minsk, according to White House officials.

On his part, the Kremlin announced that the two leaders spoke for about 30 minutes on the sidelines of the International Conference.

Dmitry Peskov, spokesman of the Russian presidency, told reporters that Obama regretted during the meeting on the shooting down of Russian aircraft by fighters of the Turkish air force and that the two sides agreed to boost political settlement of the Syrian crisis.

For the Ukrainian issue, the two presidents pointed out, according to the Kremlin, the need to fully implement the peace agreements Minsk.
