AFP: Gunmen are holding 170 hostages in Mali


At 7 am gunmen stormed a hotel in Bamako, capital of Mali, and is considered to hold hostage 170 people, according to Reuters cited sources of the security forces. Of these are 140 guests and 30 members of staff.

Senior security source said the gunmen entered the hotel where they opened fire and chanted "Allahu Akbar" (God is great).

The Rezidor company which owned the hotel chain said in a press release that "according to information available two perpetrators hostage 140 customers and 30 employees" .Poly early morning there was a shootout. Located west of the center of the capital in a district where there are ministries and embassies. The French News Agency reports that there is a strong police cordon around the hotel. Chinese media reporting that there are many Chinese people among hostages armed.

According to AFP, invoking security source, the perpetrators whom the security source called tzichanistes, allegedly entered the early morning in the hotel's perimeter with a car which bore diplomatic plates.

The US embassy in Mali confirmed the attack and asked the US nationals in Bamako to find shelter. Tourists are invited to contact their families in order to confirm that they are safe and sound.
