Turkey: The PKK asks its members to stop their activities in the country
The Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) has instructed its members to stop their activities in Turkey, unless attacked, reported news agency Firat adjacent the organization.
The agency reported that the head of the PKK have taken this decision in response to calls inside and outside of Turkey. Kurdish fighters should avoid actions which could hinder the conduct of "fair elections" in Turkey on November 1.
This announcement is a few hours after the massacre in Ankara, where 30 people were killed by two explosions in the area where it was planned a demonstration for peace with the participation of hundreds of pro-Kurdish and leftist activists.
"Given the calls from Turkey and abroad, the movement of our declaring a period of inactivity for the guerrilla forces, unless our members and our forces attacked," the Union of Kurdistan Communities (KCK), the organization -omprela covering Kurdish movements.
"During this period our guerrilla forces would not carry out their activities and will not engage in any activity other than those designed to protect the current situation and will not do anything that could impede fair elections" adds the KCK.
In an interview with AFP on Tuesday the leader of the PKK Cemil Bagik announced an "initiative" that aims to help the pro-Kurdish Democracy Party People (HDP) before the elections on November 1st. "We are ready for a truce from today, it is necessary to help the HDP», he said.
In the parliamentary elections of June 7 the DP garnered 13% and elected 80 MPs.
