Protesters react secrecy governing negotiations between the European Commission and representatives of the two superpowers, as very little information has been leaked in connection with the content and substance of the talks and focus their strong opposition to the dispute resolution mechanism between the investor and State (Investor State Dispute Settlement - ISDS) and regulatory cooperation (regulatory cooperation).
For its part, the European Commission, under the weight of heavy and persistent reactions, has already proposed a new legal system for investment and TTIP and other trade and investment negotiations.
H Transatlantic Partnership Trade and Investment (Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership - TTIP), it is a transatlantic agreement on the free movement of goods and services which, if finally reached, will create the largest global market.
The issue comes to Greek news as discussed in Parliament in May.
This agreement is proceeding with secrecy and a total lack of transparency which obviously runs counter to democratic institutions and values invoked on every occasion the European Union, say many critics.
Among others, TTIP paves the way for private companies to take any area want public services such as health, education, water, etc. without any significant restriction comment.
"By organizing the International Day of Action, we want to send a loud and clear message against the four trade and investment agreements that threaten our democratic rights, our food potential jobs and the environment," the statement said.
"These agreements are: TTIP (Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership between the US and the EU), TPP (Diaipeirotiki Partnership between the US, Canada and several Asian countries), TiSA (Commercial Value for Service Agreement, among numerous parties) and CETA (Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement between the EU and Canada).
We, the organizations of civil society, trade unions, farmers and ordinary fighters from both sides of the Atlantic we declare our opposition to TTIP, CETA, TiSA and TPP. These horrible Trade agreements threaten our Republic, the sector of Civil Service, the Social & Environmental standards and endanger small scale quality agriculture, food and pharmaceutical standards, the necessary energy transition, and our right and ability to reshape society for the better.
The beneficiaries of these agreements are major companies who have designed and promoted, not the citizens. "
On 6 October more than three million Europeans demonstrated their opposition to the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Agreement with the US (TTIP), and the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement with Canada (CETA), self-managed through the European Citizens' Initiative.
